1927 Dress

Date: ca. 1927 - Material: Net, sequins - Accession: 2001.191.0001.0724

This elaborately embellished and heavy dress comes straight out of Jazz Age Paris where the donor, Mrs. King, purchased it. Soft lightweight net fabric is weighted down by sequins and heavy beading. Strings of beads attached at the waist, mid-thighs and hemline would swoosh as the wearer moved. These dresses were specifically designed for dancing. Movement accentuates the dress.

Donated to the University of Illinois Bevier Historic Costume Collection by Mrs. Everett King. Property transfer to the Illinois State Museum, 2001.
